Micro Mosaic is a highly intricate decorative technique that uses tiny glass or stone tesserae to create detailed pictorial designs. Originating in Rome and Venice, Micro Mosaic became particularly popular among European aristocrats and travelers during the 18th and 19th centuries.

What sets Micro Mosaic apart from traditional mosaic art is its use of nearly invisible, minuscule tesserae, arranged meticulously to produce designs resembling paintings. These mosaics often depict floral motifs, architectural landmarks, animals, and mythological themes, capturing incredible detail in a miniature format.

History of Micro Mosaic
The technique was perfected in late 18th-century Rome, reaching its peak in the 19th century when it became a sought-after souvenir among travelers undertaking the Grand Tour, an educational journey for aristocrats and wealthy individuals exploring Europe's cultural landmarks. Roman workshops produced exquisite Micro Mosaic pieces featuring famous sites like St. Peter’s Basilica and the Colosseum, as well as intricate nature-inspired designs.

Venetian artisans also developed their own style of Micro Mosaic, incorporating Byzantine influences and religious iconography into their works.
